WordPress 3.9 “Smith”
What do the jazz organist Jimmy Smith and a BuzzIndie website have in common?
A key component of each BuzzIndie website is a software service called WordPress. WordPress is an open-source blogging tool and ‘content management system’ which is used as the basis for nearly 19% of the top 10 million websites including CNN, The New York Times and ebay.
All websites need to take security very seriously and those built with WordPress are no exception.
WordPress is constantly being improved by 100s of developers all over the world and upgrades are made available on a regular basis. The very latest version of WordPress is numbered 3.9 and named “Smith” after the jazz musician.
We have upgraded all BuzzIndie-hosted and operated WordPress websites and so all clients are now running the most recent, most secure version of WordPress and have some neat new features to boot.
See the video below for a summary.
A note on Heartbleed…
You may have read about the recent Heartbleed bug in the press. We do not expect any BuzzIndie site to be affected because of the way we host those sites and because of precautions taken very promptly by our hosting partners.
We do however strongly recommend that you change your passwords for 3rd party websites that you exchange sensitive information with like for banking or eCommerce.
Please do make sure you always use secure passwords and make a careful note of them. A secure password has at least 8 characters in upper and lower case, includes numbers and preferably symbols like <, > or ~.
